Description

The car was built originally for Petty’s teammate, Buddy Baker, who drove it in 1971. It was updated to 1972 specs and Petty made it part of his 1972 racing fleet. As a junk race car it was purchased for $1,500 by a father and son, then held in storage for years. Turns out it was actually a pivotal stock car that helped take Richard Petty to the 1972 NASCAR Cup Series championship.
Not only that, but this particular Dodge Charger was one of the first to feature the STP red and blue livery on Petty?s No. 43 car, which has become iconic in NASCAR history.
After an extreme makeover in the Petty Garage, the car looks like it?s ready to race again. It was restored by a lot of the same people who built it in the first place.
It has been placed as the centerpiece display in the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America at Daytona International Speedway.
